Equipo Navazos La Bota 86 Palo Cortado 375ml

Equipo Navazos La Bota 86 Palo Cortado is a single-cask bottling drawn in October 2018 from a butt that began life as an oloroso and was reclassified as palo cortado for its finesse.

Equipo Navazos began as a group of sherry lovers, led by Jesús Barquín and Eduardo Ojeda, who search the bodegas of Andalucía for individual casks worth bottling on their own and number each release in the La Bota series. Number 86 was sourced not from Jerez but from Pérez Barquero's Bodega Los Amigos in Montilla, and the fruit came from the high-altitude albariza of Altos de Moriles. It is made from Pedro Ximénez, the grape of Montilla, vinified dry rather than sun-dried, and reaches 19% alcohol through concentration and evaporation in cask rather than fortification. The average age of the wine is around thirty years. Barquín credits the altitude of the source vineyard for tempering the natural opulence of old-vine Montilla Pedro Ximénez. Scarcity and concentration are the reasons for the half-bottle format.

Pour a small measure into good stemware and serve lightly chilled at 13–14°C, with jamón ibérico, aged Manchego or a clear consommé. It will keep for weeks once opened.
