Equis Equinoxe Crozes Hermitage Rouge 2019

Equis Equinoxe Crozes Hermitage Rouge is a Northern Rhône Syrah made by Maxime Graillot from organically farmed fruit at Pont de l'Isère.

Crozes-Hermitage is the largest appellation of the Northern Rhône, and its best sites sit on the gravel terraces south of the Hermitage hill, where deep alluvial stones give Syrah both ripeness and lift. Equis is the négociant label of Maxime Graillot, who also runs Domaine des Lises. This cuvée is now sourced principally from a mature, gravelly, organically farmed site at Pont de l'Isère that has seen no herbicide or pesticide for a decade. The vineyard belongs to a friend and neighbour of the Graillot family, and grower and winemaker work closely together, a collaboration that has lifted the wine considerably. Roughly 80 per cent of the fruit was destemmed, with a degree of carbonic maceration, and fermentation took place in concrete tank and large wooden tronconique vats, followed by nine months' ageing in the same vats.

Drinking well young and will hold five or six years. Serve at 16-18°C with lamb, peppered steak or grilled sausages.
