Description

Equis Saint-Joseph is Maxime Graillot's négociant bottling from two organically farmed parcels at Saint-Jean-de-Muzols.

Saint-Jean-de-Muzols is the historic core of Saint-Joseph, sitting on steep granite slopes on the right bank of the Rhône directly opposite the hill of Hermitage. Three-quarters of the fruit comes from Syrah planted in the 1980s, the balance from vines put in during the 1950s. The Desbos family farms both sites organically and without herbicides, and the gradients are severe enough that all work is done by hand and by horse. In the cellar the wine is fermented with roughly 20 to 30 per cent whole bunches, then matured for eleven months in used ex-Burgundy 228-litre casks, followed by six months in tronconique vats. It is bottled without filtration, which suits the layered, stony style of the wine.

Drinkable now and better with three to eight years in bottle. Serve at 16-18°C with lamb shoulder, peppered beef or grilled kangaroo fillet.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
