Espectacle del Montsant DO 2019

Espectacle del Montsant DO is an old vine Garnacha from a single high altitude vineyard in southern Catalonia.

Montsant wraps almost entirely around Priorat, sharing much of its climate and its inheritance of old, low yielding Garnacha, although its soils are more varied and include clay and sand alongside the schist that defines its famous neighbour. Espectacle comes from one vineyard of very old bush vine Garnacha planted high on the flank of the Serra de Montsant, where altitude tempers the summer heat and the harvest comes late. The project was created by Christopher Cannan with the involvement of Rene Barbier of Clos Mogador, and the wine is made in very small quantities from that single site rather than blended across the appellation.

A wine for the cellar that repays several years and benefits from an hour in a decanter; serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, game or slow cooked beef.
