Étienne Bodet Saumur rouge La Durandière 2022

Étienne Bodet Saumur rouge La Durandière is a single-parcel Cabernet Franc from Saumur, made by a winemaker who learned the appellation as assistant winemaker at Clos Rougeard.

Saumur rouge is Cabernet Franc grown on the tuffeau limestone plateau on the left bank of the Loire, where chalky subsoil under shallow clay gives the grape a firmer, more mineral frame than the sandier terraces further west. La Durandière is a named parcel bottled on its own rather than blended into a village cuvée. The estate is farmed organically, and Étienne Bodet trained alongside the team at Clos Rougeard, the reference point for Cabernet Franc in this corner of the Loire. The winemaking follows that school in outline: hand picking, indigenous yeast fermentation, ageing in seasoned rather than new oak, and low yields to build concentration without weight.

A structured but supple red for roast poultry, charcuterie, mushrooms and hard cheeses; serve at around 16 degrees, and give a young bottle an hour in the decanter.
