Description
Fabien Coche Auxey-Duresses rouge is a red Burgundy from the side valley behind Meursault.
Auxey-Duresses lies in the combe that runs west from Meursault, a cooler valley it shares with Monthelie and Saint-Romain. The vineyards sit higher than those on the main slope and many face south or south east rather than due east, so the fruit ripens later and the reds come out lighter and more overtly red fruited than Volnay or Pommard a short distance away. For a long time the wines were sold off under the Côte de Beaune-Villages name, and the appellation remains one of the better value red addresses on the Côte d'Or. Fabien Coche farms from Meursault, on the other side of the ridge, with a spread of small parcels in the neighbouring valley communes alongside his Meursault whites.
Bright, medium weight and fine boned, it drinks well young with charcuterie, poultry and mushroom dishes; serve at around 15 degrees.
