Description
Fabien Coche Meursault-Charmes is a premier cru white Burgundy from the largest and one of the best regarded climats in the village.
Meursault lies in the southern half of the Côte de Beaune and is planted almost entirely to Chardonnay. Charmes is the biggest of its premiers crus, running along the lower slope towards Volnay, where the soil is deeper and browner than in the stonier Perrières above it; the wines are correspondingly broader and rounder, with the saline lift that marks the village held in reserve behind the weight. Fabien Coche runs the family domaine in the village, farming a little over a dozen hectares across Meursault and the communes around it. The fruit is whole-bunch pressed and settled, then fermented and aged in barrel on its lees with a moderate proportion of new oak before bottling; this cuvée is sealed with a Diam closure.
Broad, rich and long, with Meursault's saline finish; serve at 12 to 13 degrees with roast chicken, scallops, veal or a mature hard cheese.
