Fabien Coche Meursault rouge 2023

Fabien Coche Meursault rouge is an uncommon thing, red wine from a commune famous almost entirely for its Chardonnay.

Meursault is the largest white wine commune of the Côte de Beaune, yet a small share of its land is still planted to Pinot Noir, mostly at the northern end towards Volnay and up at Blagny where the vineyards are higher and the soils stonier. The finest of that ground, Les Santenots du Milieu, is entitled to be sold as Volnay-Santenots, so what stays in bottle as Meursault rouge is a genuine rarity and usually made in tiny quantity. Fabien Coche is a Meursault domaine, part of the extended Coche family of the village, better known for whites from Le Limozin, Les Luchets and Les Gouttes d'Or. The red is a village wine from a small holding.

Medium weight, savoury and fine boned in a Volnay-like way, it suits duck, veal and roast poultry; serve at around 16 degrees.
