Description
Fabien Coche Pommard vieilles vignes is an old vine village Pommard from a Meursault based domaine.
Pommard makes red wine only, on iron rich clay and limestone scree that give Pinot Noir unusual density, colour and tannin for the Côte de Beaune. The commune has no grand cru, its high point being the premiers crus Les Rugiens towards Volnay and Les Épenots towards Beaune, but even village Pommard is built on a bigger frame than its neighbours and has always been a wine to keep. A vieilles vignes cuvée is drawn from the estate's oldest plantings, which crop less and give more concentrated fruit; the term carries no legal definition in Burgundy. Fabien Coche is principally a white wine domaine in Meursault, with red parcels in the surrounding villages.
Deep, firm and tannic in youth, it needs time and suits braised beef, game and mature cheese; serve at around 17 degrees.
