Description

Fabien Duveau Saumur blanc Poyeux is a Chenin Blanc from vines planted in 1976 on one of Saumur's best-known slopes.

Les Poyeux is among the most recognised lieux-dits around Saumur, a gently sloping site of sand and clay over tuffeau limestone, best known for red wine but capable of giving Chenin Blanc real depth. Vines planted in 1976 are approaching fifty years of age here, with root systems deep into the limestone, which steadies ripening and concentrates the fruit without adding weight. Saumur blanc from a site like this is dry and built around acidity and texture rather than fruit; the usual practice in the appellation is whole-bunch pressing, a slow fermentation and a long rest on fine lees, which gives breadth in the middle of the palate while leaving the finish firm and the wine able to age.

Dry, concentrated and firm; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with roast fish, poultry or hard cheeses.
