Fabien Duveau Saumur-Champigny Bas Poyeux 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Fabien Duveau Saumur-Champigny Bas Poyeux in magnum is a Cabernet Franc from vines planted in 1960, bottled in the larger 1.5 litre format.

Poyeux is among the most highly regarded lieux-dits of Saumur-Champigny, a slope where a very thin sandy clay topsoil sits over tuffeau limestone so the roots run into the rock itself. Fabien Duveau's Bas Poyeux parcel was planted in 1960, and the old vines crop lightly and ripen slowly. The vineyard is farmed organically and hand harvested, and the fruit is fermented with indigenous yeast, with a gentle infusion-style extraction and a long élevage in seasoned wood that firms the structure without adding oak flavour. The magnum holds one and a half litres, a format that slows ageing and suits a wine of this structure particularly well.

A cellar and table format for roast lamb, beef and game; decant well ahead and serve at around 17 degrees.
