Fabien Duveau Saumur-Champigny Menais 2023

Fabien Duveau Saumur-Champigny Menais is an organically grown Cabernet Franc from a named site in the appellation.

Saumur-Champigny covers nine communes east of Saumur on the left bank of the Loire, where sand and clay lie over the tuffeau limestone that gives the region its cellars and its cool, even ripening. Cabernet Franc is the appellation's only significant red grape, producing wines that are more about freshness, fine tannin and savoury detail than weight. Menais is one of the named parcels worked by Fabien Duveau, whose vineyards are farmed organically and without herbicide. The fruit is hand picked and fermented with indigenous yeast, and élevage takes place in tank and older wood so the wine keeps its bright, unoaked character and the chalky lift of the tuffeau beneath it.

Fresh and approachable, it suits charcuterie, roast chicken, pork and tomato-based dishes; serve lightly cool, at around 15 degrees.
