Description
Faiveley Bourgogne Chardonnay is regional white Burgundy from one of the oldest family houses in the Cote d'Or.
Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and has passed through seven generations of the same family, an unusual run of continuity in a region where holdings are endlessly divided by inheritance. Along the way it assembled one of the largest collections of premier and grand cru land in Burgundy, together with substantial vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise. Erwan Faiveley took charge in 2005 and oversaw a shift towards gentler handling in the cellar and a new winery in Nuits. The Bourgogne appellation is the broad base of the region's pyramid, drawing on parcels that sit outside the named village boundaries, and in the hands of a domaine with vineyards spread across the Cote d'Or and the Cote Chalonnaise it can be a genuinely useful introduction to the house style. Chardonnay is the sole grape, fermented and matured with a measured hand.
Serve at 10 to 12C with white fish, roast chicken, quiche or soft goat's cheese; it is made to be drunk in its first few years.
