Description
Faiveley Bourgogne Rouge Pinot Noir is the entry point to a house that has been making wine in Nuits-Saint-Georges for two centuries.
Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and has passed through seven generations of the same family, an unusual run of continuity in a region where holdings are endlessly divided by inheritance. Along the way it assembled one of the largest collections of premier and grand cru land in Burgundy, together with substantial vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise. Erwan Faiveley took charge in 2005 and oversaw a shift towards gentler handling in the cellar and a new winery in Nuits. Bourgogne Rouge is the regional appellation that sits beneath the villages, and its quality depends almost entirely on who is making it and where the fruit comes from, since a house with vineyards across the Cote d'Or and the Cote Chalonnaise has plenty to choose from. Pinot Noir is the only grape, fermented in vat and raised in oak with restraint.
Serve at about 15 to 16C, a touch cool, with charcuterie, roast chicken, mushroom dishes or soft cheeses.
