Description
Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny is village-level red Burgundy from the commune with perhaps the greatest reputation for finesse in the Cote de Nuits.
Chambolle-Musigny sits between Morey-Saint-Denis and Vougeot, its vineyards spread across thin, stony limestone soils with very little clay, a make-up long held to explain the delicacy for which the commune is known. It added the name of its finest vineyard, Le Musigny, to its own in 1878. Village wines come from parcels below and around the premier crus and grand crus, and in a commune this small they are seldom far from far grander neighbours. Faiveley was founded at Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and has passed through seven generations of the same family, assembling along the way one of the largest holdings of premier and grand cru land in Burgundy. Erwan Faiveley took charge in 2005 and oversaw a shift towards gentler handling in the cellar.
Serve at 15 to 16C with duck, roast poultry, veal or mild washed-rind cheese; it will drink well for the better part of a decade.
