Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc Classic 2024

Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc Classic is a dry, easy-drinking Alsace white made from equal parts Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois.

Winegrowers in the walled town of Riquewihr since 1639, the Hugels are among the best-known names in Alsace and the business is still family-run. Fruit for this wine comes from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen sites in and around Riquewihr, from vines averaging about 35 years of age, and everything is picked by hand. The grapes arrive at the winery in small tubs and are pressed without pumping, then the juice is fermented at controlled temperature in vats and racked just once before clearing naturally over winter. It is bottled with almost no residual sugar and sealed with a Diam cork.

Well chilled, this makes a fine aperitif. At the table it is a true all-rounder with seafood, quiche, cold meats, salads and simple chicken or pork dishes. At 12 per cent alcohol it is a light, refreshing style to drink within three or four years.
