Description
Famille Hugel Riesling Grossi Laüe comes from the family's oldest and best holdings on the slopes above Riquewihr in Alsace.
Grossi Laue is Alsatian dialect for great growth, and Hugel adopted it for their top tier of single-site wines, replacing the Jubilee name they had used previously. The fruit comes from grand cru classified land the family has held for generations, above all the Schoenenbourg, a steep marl and gypsum slope on the northern side of Riquewihr that has been praised in writing since the sixteenth century. Yields are cut hard, picking is late and selective, and the wine is fermented dry and raised in the large old oak foudres in the family cellars. The Hugels have farmed here since 1639, and very little of this bottling is made in any release.
This will reward a decade or more in the cellar; serve at around 10 degrees with turbot, poultry in cream sauce or a fine terrine.
