Description
Famille Perrin Domaine Clos Tourelles Gigondas comes from a walled vineyard in the middle of the village of Gigondas, farmed by the family behind Chateau de Beaucastel.
Gigondas lies at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the jagged limestone ridge that shelters the village from the worst of the mistral, and was promoted from Cotes du Rhone Villages to its own cru in 1971. Grenache dominates here by law and by temperament, grown on clay and limestone scree washed down from the Dentelles, with Syrah adding structure. The Clos des Tourelles is a walled plot with an old cellar attached, an unusual survival in the heart of a village. The Perrin family, custodians of Beaucastel for four generations, farm it organically and vinify it separately. Gigondas may be made as red or rosé, but red accounts for almost all of it.
Decant and serve at around 17 degrees with roast lamb, game or a slow-cooked daube; it will keep a decade with ease.
