Fitapreta Pequeno Eremita Tinto 2024

Fitapreta Pequeno Eremita Tinto is a fresh, mid-weight Alentejo red drawn from Castelão, Moreto and Tinta Carvalha, three varieties that used to fill vineyards across the region.

Low, sandy granite ground below the Serra d'Ossa feeds these vines, and the cool current of water beneath it buys them a little relief in high summer. Picking begins in darkness, every bunch is looked over on a sorting table, and gravity, not a pump, carries the fruit down into the vat. About a third goes in as whole clusters, nothing is added to start the ferment, and the skins stay in the wine for several weeks.

Red berries and pomegranate come through with a herbal, damp-forest edge, and the tannins are fine and unforced. Pour it at 16–18°C with grilled veal, partridge stewed Alentejo-style, or a mushroom and chestnut gratin.
