Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 2021

Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve is a pure Sangiovese from the Conca d'Oro at Panzano in Chianti Classico, drawn from the estate's best parcels.

Since 1968 the Manetti family have owned the property, and their vineyards cover much of the south-facing bowl above Panzano, at around 400 metres on stony, alberese-rich soils. Farming has been organic for decades, and it's certified. First made in 1981, this bottling takes its name from the old Pieve di San Leolino nearby. After a long maceration, the wine goes into French oak barriques for roughly eighteen months, plenty of them new, then further time in bottle before release.

Deep and structured, with dark cherry, iron and dried herbs behind serious tannins. Decant it an hour or two ahead or leave it in the cellar a while longer, then pour at 16–18°C with bistecca, game or aged pecorino.
