Forest Hill Vineyard Block 9 Shiraz 2023

Forest Hill Vineyard Block 9 Shiraz is a peppery, silky single-block Shiraz from Mount Barker in Western Australia.

Block 9 is a parcel of Shiraz on Forest Hill's estate vineyard, one of the pioneering plantings of the Great Southern. The cool climate here gives Shiraz a spicier, more fragrant style than the warm regions of South Australia, with pepper and red and blue fruits to the fore. The 2023 is dark red with purple hues and a bouquet of black pepper, cinnamon, blackberry and dark chocolate. On the palate, red and blue fruits meet nutmeg and clove, finishing with silky tannins and good length.

Peppered steak, duck ragù or lamb shanks all bring out its spice; serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It will hold and develop for several years.
