Forest Hill Vineyard Estate Shiraz 2024

Forest Hill Vineyard Estate Shiraz is a deep, structured Shiraz grown on the Forest Hill estate at Mount Barker.

The Great Southern's cool, maritime-influenced climate gives Shiraz a more peppery, savoury style than the warmer regions to the east, and Forest Hill has grown grapes on its Mount Barker vineyard since the 1960s. The Estate label signals fruit from the company's own vines. The 2024 is deep purple and bright, with spiced plums, blackberry, charred meat and liquorice on the nose, followed by blackberry and plum on the palate and a dense profile of gravelly tannins.

With its firm tannins, this one likes a decanter and a hearty dish: braised oxtail, barbecued lamb chops or a rich lasagne. Pour at around 17 degrees.
