Description
François Labet Île de Beauté Pinot Noir is a Corsican Pinot made by a Burgundian, from vines at 400 metres above the east coast.
Île de Beauté is the island-wide IGP for Corsica, and Pinot Noir remains a rarity within it. François Labet, whose main work is at Château de la Tour in the Clos de Vougeot, sources this wine from a vineyard in the Haute-Corse department at 400 metres above Ghisonaccia. The altitude does the work that latitude does in Burgundy, holding back the ripening and keeping acidity in the fruit. Labet treats it quite differently from his Côte de Nuits reds: the fruit is fully destemmed rather than fermented in whole bunches, and the wine is then aged two-thirds in tank and one-third in French oak before bottling under screwcap. The result keeps Pinot's shape while picking up the spice and warmth of the Mediterranean.
Ready to drink now. Serve at 15-16°C with charcuterie, roast pork or grilled tuna.
