Description
François Labet Île de Beauté Pinot Noir is Burgundian Pinot grown at 400 metres on the east coast of Corsica.
Île de Beauté is the IGP that covers Corsica, and Pinot Noir is a rare sight on the island. This one is made by François Labet, better known for Château de la Tour in the Clos de Vougeot, from a vineyard in the Haute-Corse department at 400 metres above the town of Ghisonaccia. The altitude is the key: it keeps night temperatures down and preserves the acidity that Pinot Noir needs in a Mediterranean climate. Labet handles the fruit quite differently from his red Burgundies, destemming completely rather than working with whole bunches, then ageing two-thirds in tank and one-third in French oak before bottling. The result is a Pinot with more spice and earth than the Côte d'Or gives, and it is sealed under screwcap.
Ready to drink now. Serve at 15-16°C with charcuterie, roast pork or grilled tuna.
