François Lamarche Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot 2016

François Lamarche Clos de Vougeot is drawn from three parcels spread across the top, middle and lower sections of the walled grand cru.

Clos de Vougeot runs from the château at the top of the slope down to the main road, and the quality of a bottling depends heavily on where in those 50 hectares the vines sit. Lamarche holds 1.35 hectares in three terroirs: two small parcels at the top near the château in the area known as Montiotes Hautes, one in the middle tranche on the Vosne side at Petits Maupertis, and the last lower down near the RN74 at Baudes Basses. All three are picked at the same time. Nicole Lamarche vinifies for a finer, prettier expression, very Vosne in style, and Vougeot seldom comes with a structure this lacy. Even so, the terroir asserts itself: there is more power and more mineral, savoury structure here than in the rest of the range.

Needs eight to ten years and will run well beyond. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, game or a mature hard cheese.
