François Lamarche Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes comes from half a hectare directly below Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche.

Les Chaumes lies at the southern end of Vosne-Romanée, on the lower slope beneath Aux Malconsorts and La Tâche, where deeper soils generally give a rounder, more sensual style of Vosne than the sites above. Lamarche has four premier crus in the village, La Croix Rameau, Aux Malconsorts, Les Suchots and this wine, and the family's half-hectare here produces fine-boned, perfumed and genuinely sensual wine. The vines are now between 30 and 40 years old. As with the rest of the range under Nicole Lamarche, the fermentation used around 30 per cent whole bunches for perfume and fine tannin, and the wine was raised in used barrels, keeping oak out of the equation. It is the most immediately charming of the domaine's Vosne holdings.

Approachable from five years and good for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pigeon, duck or a mushroom risotto.
