Description
Frapin Multimillésime #7 Grande Champagne is a cognac built from three separately declared harvests brought together in a single release.
Grande Champagne is the first cru of Cognac, soft Campanian chalk whose eaux-de-vie mature slowly and live longest of all the region's crus. Frapin is unusual in drawing solely on vineyard it owns, some 240 hectares of Ugni Blanc around the Château de Fontpinot at Segonzac, where the family has farmed since 1270 and where everything from growing to bottling takes place. The base wine is distilled on its lees in small copper pot stills, and the eaux-de-vie age in Limousin oak in the estate's own humid cellars. A multimillésime sits between a single-harvest bottling and an ordinary blend: every harvest in it is declared, and each is held separately under customs supervision until assembly. Bringing three together lets the cellar master balance them against one another rather than take one season as it stands. Bottled at 40%.
A cognac to be taken neat and slowly after a meal, and a natural partner for a cigar; serve at room temperature in a small tulip glass.
