Frapin VIP XO Grande Champagne 700ml

Frapin VIP XO Grande Champagne is one of the house's prestige bottlings, drawn from long-aged reserves of estate Ugni Blanc.

Grande Champagne is the first cru of Cognac, soft Campanian chalk whose eaux-de-vie mature slowly and live longest of all the region's crus. Frapin is unusual in drawing solely on vineyard it owns, some 240 hectares of Ugni Blanc around the Château de Fontpinot at Segonzac, where the family has farmed since 1270 and where everything from growing to bottling takes place. The base wine is distilled on its lees in small copper pot stills, and the eaux-de-vie age in Limousin oak in the estate's own humid cellars. The VIP XO sits well above the minimum requirement for the XO designation, the blend built from casks left in the humid part of the cellar where evaporation favours softness over concentration. It is bottled at 40% and presented in the house's decanter.

A digestif in the classic mould, best on its own after a meal or with a plain dark chocolate; serve at room temperature in a tulip glass.
