Freycinet Chardonnay 2025

Freycinet Chardonnay is a finely layered, oak-framed Chardonnay from a family estate on the east coast of Tasmania.

The Bull family's vineyard near Swansea dates back to the early days of the modern Tasmanian wine industry, and today the winemaking is led by Claudio Radenti and Lindy Bull. East coast Chardonnay benefits from a long, mild growing season and a cool maritime influence, so the fruit gains real concentration while keeping its natural acidity. Oak is used with a light hand, sitting in the background to frame melon, grapefruit, nectarine and fig flavours and to give the palate a creamy, seamless texture. The wine is powerful yet precise, and the winery expects it to evolve over five to fifteen years.

Pour it lightly chilled, around 10 to 12 degrees, so the texture comes through. Try it with roast chicken, crayfish with brown butter or a creamy mushroom risotto. It drinks well now and will gain complexity with cellaring.
