Freycinet Pinot Noir 2025

Freycinet Pinot Noir is the estate's signature Pinot Noir, a concentrated and complex wine from Tasmania's east coast.

Pinot Noir has been central to this family vineyard since its first plantings in the late 1970s, and the estate wine is one of those that built the reputation of Tasmanian Pinot. The vines grow in a sheltered bowl of land inland from the Freycinet Peninsula, where warmth and protection from the wind let the grape build depth and power without losing its perfume. The 2025 shows spiced cherry, raspberry and plum with notes of rosehip, truffle and forest floor, then pomegranate, satsuma plum and sour cherry on a satiny palate, with subtle oak and mineral tannins. It is made with the long term in mind.

Decant for half an hour and serve at around 15 to 17 degrees. Roast duck, venison, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses all work well, and the winery suggests cellaring for 15 to 20 years to see its savoury, forest-floor side develop.
