Fritz Haag Riesling 2023

Fritz Haag Riesling is the estate's entry wine, a gently off-dry Mosel Riesling from young vines on the blue slate of Brauneberg.

The Haag family has farmed at Brauneberg on the middle Mosel since 1605, and the estate is now run by Oliver Haag from a cellar directly across the river from the Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr vineyards. This bottling draws on younger vines and declassified parcels from those steep, south-facing slopes of grey and blue Devonian slate, which store heat and ripen Riesling slowly at low alcohol. The fruit is pressed gently, settled and fermented cool in stainless steel, and the fermentation is allowed to stop with 17 grams per litre of sugar remaining, the gently off-dry feinherb style. The wine is bottled early under screwcap to preserve its aromatic freshness.

Light, brisk and only faintly sweet, it suits salads, charcuterie, sushi and lightly spiced dishes; serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
