Fromm Chenin Blanc 2024

Fromm Chenin Blanc is a rare Marlborough take on the Loire Valley grape, textural, tightly wound and made for the table.

Chenin Blanc is scarcely planted in Marlborough, and this wine reflects the winery's habit of looking beyond Sauvignon Blanc to varieties that suit the region's cool climate. The estate's vineyards are certified organic and harvested by hand, and site and vintage are left to shape the style. Here that means an apple-skin grip and lanolin texture, green apple, honeydew and greengage flavours, hints of mango and pink grapefruit that open with air, and a long line of mouthwatering lemony acidity with the lightest touch of Thai basil on the finish.

The winery recommends a quick decant in the wine's first year, and it shows best a little warmer than fridge-cold. Try it with pork and fennel, Thai-style salads, seared scallops or a mild chicken curry.
