Fromm Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Fromm Clayvin Vineyard Pinot Noir is a concentrated, finely structured single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Brancott Valley in Marlborough.

Clay soils on the slopes of this Southern Valleys site give Pinot Noir ripe dark-fruit flavour, richness and fine texture, qualities the winery has pursued since its early days as a red-wine specialist in a white-wine region. The fruit is organically grown and hand-picked, and each vineyard is fermented separately so the site can express itself. In 2021 a moderately low crop produced huge concentration while keeping structure, linearity and tension: dark plum, cassis and blackberry with great purity, a seamless, mouthfilling palate and a very fine coating of tannin through a long, persistent finish.

Give it time in a decanter and serve at around 16 degrees. Lamb rack, duck breast, venison or wild mushrooms suit it, and it has the structure to cellar well.
