Fromm Malbec Fromm Vineyard 2017

Fromm Malbec Fromm Vineyard is a rare Marlborough Malbec from the winery's original home vineyard.

Malbec is an uncommon sight in Marlborough, but it has been part of this estate's plantings for many years, grown on the home block alongside Riesling and Pinot Gris. The founders came from Switzerland in the early 1990s intending to make red wines with the structure to age, and this single-vineyard Malbec is one of the clearest expressions of that idea. The 2017 has dense blackberry and boysenberry fruit, black olive savouriness, purple florals and sweet spice, with ripe, integrated tannins and real weight balanced by elegance. Released with some bottle age, it is now showing added complexity.

Serve at around 17 to 18 degrees after a short decant. It is excellent with slow-cooked beef cheeks, lamb, Argentinian-style grilled meats or a hard aged cheese.
