Fromm Syrah 2021

Fromm Syrah is a cool-climate Marlborough Syrah with a touch of Viognier, made for the long haul.

Syrah is one of the winery's signature reds, an unusual choice in a region dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, and it takes its cue more from the northern Rhône than from warm-climate Australian Shiraz. Viognier is included in the traditional Rhône manner, which can lift the aromatics and soften the texture. The vines are certified organic and hand-harvested. The 2021 is dark red-purple and still closed in its youth, with deep, dark fruit that slowly reveals finer floral notes, intense concentration without heaviness, and a blend of power and underlying elegance that will blossom with bottle age.

If opening now, decant for an hour or two and serve at around 17 degrees; better still, cellar it for a few more years. Match it with peppered venison, braised lamb shanks or duck cassoulet.
