Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Villages 2023

Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Villages is a Gamay from the granite hills of northern Beaujolais, from the house that did more than any other to carry the region's name abroad.

Georges Duboeuf founded his business at Romanèche-Thorins in 1964 and spent the following decades making the case for Beaujolais abroad, tasting through hundreds of growers' cellars each season and bottling the best of what he found. The Beaujolais-Villages appellation covers thirty-eight communes in the northern half of the region, where granite and schist replace the clay and limestone of the plainer south, and where the ten cru villages also sit. Gamay is the sole variety, harvested by hand as the appellation requires and fermented whole bunch in the semi-carbonic manner traditional to the region.

Serve lightly chilled at around 13 degrees with charcuterie, roast chicken, sausages or a cheese board. It is a wine to drink young, generally within two or three years of the harvest.
