Description
Georges Duboeuf Morgon Mont Chavy is a Gamay from the cru with the most serious reputation for ageing in all of Beaujolais.
Morgon is the second largest of the ten crus, centred on the village of Villié-Morgon, and takes its character from the decomposed schist and volcanic rock the locals call roche pourrie, rotten rock. Its best known slope is the Côte du Py, a weathered dome above the village, and Morgon as a whole gives the firmest and longest lived wines of the region, so much so that older bottles are often mistaken for Côte de Beaune. Georges Duboeuf, established at Romanèche-Thorins in 1964, selects across the cru. Gamay is hand harvested and fermented in the semi-carbonic manner.
Serve at around 15 degrees with roast lamb, duck, game or a beef casserole; Morgon rewards five to eight years in the cellar and is one of the few Beaujolais that genuinely benefits from a decanter.
