Description

Georges Duboeuf Moulin-à-Vent is a Gamay from the Beaujolais cru named after the old windmill that still stands above its vineyards.

Moulin-à-Vent takes its name from a stone windmill on the hill between Romanèche-Thorins and Chénas, and it has no village of its own, only the vineyard and the landmark. The granite here carries seams of manganese, which growers have long held responsible for the low yields and the unusually firm structure of the wine. It is the most ageworthy of the ten crus and the one most often compared with the Côte d'Or. Georges Duboeuf built his house in Romanèche-Thorins from 1964, on the doorstep of this appellation. Gamay is hand harvested and fermented in the semi-carbonic style.

Serve at about 15 degrees with roast lamb, duck, game or aged cheeses; it is worth cellaring for five to ten years, and is one of the few Beaujolais that repays a spell in the decanter.
