Description
Giant Steps Tarraford Vineyard Syrah is a cool-climate Syrah from the 1983 planting at Yarra Glen.
The Yarra Valley ripens Syrah slowly and at moderate sugar levels, which is why producers here use the French name rather than Shiraz: the wines are peppery and medium-bodied, closer to the northern Rhône than to the Barossa. Tarraford's older vines and grey loam soils give the wine its structure. Fermentation includes a high proportion of whole bunches, and ageing is in French oak with little new wood.
Serve at 16 degrees with lamb, charcuterie or roasted capsicum. Drink over the next ten years.
