Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2025

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay draws on fruit from several sites across the Upper and Lower Yarra, blended into the winery's regional expression of the variety.

The Yarra Valley sits east of Melbourne and is one of Australia's coolest mainland regions, which is why Chardonnay ripens slowly here and holds its acidity. Giant Steps was founded at Healesville in 1997 by Phil Sexton, who had earlier established Devil's Lair in Margaret River, and the winery built its name on single-vineyard bottlings from sites such as Sexton, Tarraford and Applejack. The regional Chardonnay takes parcels from across those vineyards, with whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation in barrel and maturation on lees in French oak, very little of it new.

Serve at about 12 degrees with roast chicken, grilled fish or a soft washed-rind cheese. It will hold for five years or so.
