Gilles Robin Cornas 2022

Gilles Robin Cornas is drawn from old vines high up in the Saint Pierre sector, at the top of the appellation's hill.

Cornas is the southernmost red appellation of the northern Rhone and the smallest of consequence, a natural amphitheatre of steep granite terraces sheltered from the north wind, which makes it one of the warmest and earliest ripening sites in the region. Syrah is the only permitted grape and the wines are traditionally the firmest and darkest of the northern Rhone. This cuvee comes from old vines in the Saint Pierre lieu-dit at the top of the hill, where the granite is shallow and the wind exposure greater, giving concentration with freshness. Domaine Gilles Robin, based across the river at Mercurol, farms organically.

Dark, firm and long lived, it calls for beef, venison, oxtail or aged cheese; serve at around 17 degrees and decant an hour ahead.
