Girlan Alto Adige Pinot Bianco 2025

Girlan's Alto Adige Pinot Bianco is drawn from hand-picked hillside fruit at Cornaiano between 450 and 500 metres.

Pinot Bianco is the variety that best expresses Alto Adige's alpine conditions, and Cornaiano, in the Oltradige hills above the Adige valley, is one of its best homes. Cantina Girlan has been based there since 1923 and farms these mineral-rich slopes at 450 to 500 metres, where the diurnal swing between warm days and cold alpine nights preserves acidity. The fruit is hand-picked, the juice ferments in tank, and only about ten per cent of the wine goes through malolactic conversion, just enough to put a little flesh on the wine's cool bones without softening it. There is no oak. Weight and texture are the strength here: a racy, pulpy white with pithy minerality and an alpine tang on the finish, and one of the better-value bottles in the region.

At its best over the next three to four years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled prawns, chicken in white wine or a fresh alpine cheese.
