Description
Gosset Grand Blanc de Blancs is an all-Chardonnay Champagne in magnum from a house founded at Aÿ in 1584.
Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne, established in 1584 and now run from Épernay by the Cointreau family. The Grand Blanc de Blancs is built entirely from Chardonnay, drawn from Côte des Blancs villages such as Avize, Cramant and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger together with the chalk sites of the eastern Montagne de Reims at Villers-Marmery and Trépail, which give a slightly firmer, more mineral cast to the blend. As with every Gosset wine, malolactic fermentation is blocked so that malic acidity is preserved, and the wine is kept on lees for several years before disgorgement with a low dosage. The magnum format slows that development further.
Taut and chalky rather than creamy, it suits oysters, raw fish and lighter shellfish; serve at around 9 degrees.
