Description
Gosset Grand Millesime is the house vintage Champagne, made only in years the cellar judges worthy.
Gosset was founded at Ay in 1584 and is the oldest wine house in Champagne, now based in Epernay. Its defining choice is to block malolactic fermentation, keeping malic acidity intact so the wines stay taut and reward long cellaring. Grand Millesime is declared only in suitable years and is drawn from a restricted group of crus, blending Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in roughly equal measure with no reserve wine, so the character of the single harvest carries through. Vintage Champagne must by law spend at least three years on lees, and Gosset holds this cuvee considerably longer in the cool chalk cellars before disgorgement, finishing it with a low dosage. With malolactic fermentation blocked, the wine retains a bracing acid frame that lets it develop slowly in bottle rather than broadening early.
Structured, dry and gastronomic, it suits lobster, roast poultry, veal and mature hard cheeses; serve at around 10 degrees.
