Description
Gosset Grand Rosé is the house's non-vintage rosé Champagne, coloured by still red Pinot Noir, here in magnum.
The oldest wine house in Champagne, founded at Aÿ in 1584 and now working from Épernay, Gosset blocks malolactic fermentation on every wine so that malic acidity is retained and the style stays firm rather than soft. Grand Rosé is assembled from Chardonnay grown in Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims villages together with Pinot Noir, then given a small addition of still red Pinot Noir from Ambonnay and Bouzy, the two grand crus best known for red wine in Champagne. That red wine sets the colour and adds a faint tannic grip. The wine ages on lees for several years before disgorgement with a modest dosage.
Dry and vinous rather than sweetly fruity, it works with charcuterie, salmon, duck and lighter red-meat dishes; serve at around 10 degrees.
