Description
Gosset Grande Réserve is the house's flagship non-vintage blend, here in magnum, from the oldest wine house in Champagne.
Gosset was founded at Aÿ in 1584, more than a century before Champagne became a sparkling wine region, and the house is now based in Épernay under the Cointreau family. Its defining decision is technical: malolactic fermentation is blocked, so the natural malic acidity of the base wines is retained and the wines are built to age. Grande Réserve draws on more than a dozen crus, roughly split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a smaller share of Meunier, and leans on a substantial library of reserve wines. It rests on lees well beyond the appellation minimum before disgorgement, and a magnum ages more slowly still.
Vinous and firm rather than soft, it handles roast poultry, shellfish and hard cheese as readily as an aperitif; serve at around 9 to 10 degrees.
