Grasshopper Rock Central Otago Pinot Noir 2022

Grasshopper Rock Central Otago Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Alexandra sub-region, one of the most southerly corners of Central Otago.

Central Otago is often described as the world's southernmost wine region, and Alexandra, towards its southern end, has a dry, continental climate of hot days, cold nights and schist-based soils. This wine comes from one estate vineyard near the town and is the producer's sole focus, grown and made to reflect the site. The 2022 is dark purple with garnet hues, perfumed with violets, blackberry, strawberry, spice and dried herb, then a silky entry of dark plum, dark cherry and forest floor, good minerality, ample fine-grained tannins and a firm acid backbone.

Serve at around 15 to 17 degrees. It is lovely with roast lamb, venison, duck with plum sauce or mushroom-based dishes, and will develop further over the next several years.
