Description
Grasshopper Rock Central Otago Pinot Noir Museum Release is a cellar-aged release of the estate's single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Alexandra sub-region, one of the most southerly corners of Central Otago.
Central Otago is often described as the world's southernmost wine region, and Alexandra, towards its southern end, has a dry, continental climate of hot days, cold nights and schist-based soils. This wine comes from one estate vineyard near the town and is the producer's sole focus, grown and made to reflect the site. Held back at the winery before release, the 2018 shows red currant, boysenberry, violet, dried herb, tobacco and clove, with cherry, raspberry and liquorice on a finely textured palate and a long, mineral finish.
Serve at around 15 to 17 degrees. It is lovely with roast lamb, venison, duck with plum sauce or mushroom-based dishes, and with its bottle age it is drinking beautifully now.
