Description
Grosset Alea is an off-dry Clare Valley Riesling, left with a little residual sugar rather than fermented out.
Clare's altitude and cold nights give Riesling firm natural acidity, which carries a touch of sweetness without the wine tasting sweet, a style closer to the Mosel than to the region's usual bone-dry bottlings. Jeffrey Grosset founded the winery in 1981 at Auburn, working from the old butter factory in the town, and farms organically. The fruit is whole-bunch pressed and fermented cool in stainless steel, with fermentation stopped while a small amount of sugar remains.
Serve at 8 degrees with Thai or Sichuan food, pork belly or blue cheese. Drink over the next eight years.
