Description
Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d'Ampuis is a single label drawn from seven separate vineyard sites across the Côte-Rôtie appellation.
The château itself is a Renaissance building on the riverbank at Ampuis, bought by the Guigal family in 1995 and now the heart of the estate. The wine that carries its name blends parcels from both sides of the appellation, among them La Garde, La Grande Plantée, Le Clos, La Pommière, Le Pavillon Rouge, Le Moulin and La Viria. Syrah is joined by a small share of Viognier, co-fermented in the local manner, and the wine is aged for around three years in oak, a good part of it new. In the house hierarchy it sits between Brune et Blonde and the three single vineyard wines known as the La Las.
Worth decanting and best at 16 to 18 degrees with roast beef, venison or duck; it repays fifteen years or more in a cool cellar.
